Susan joined Columbia’s Office of the General Counsel in 1996, became a Deputy General Counsel in 2018, and joined Columbia Investment Management Company (CIMC) as Chief Legal Officer and Secretary in 2023. At CIMC, she oversees the legal aspects of CIMC ’s activities and provides advice and support on Board and governance matters. Her University practice focuses primarily on University governance and policy, the finance and investment activities of the University and tax-exempt issues. Prior to coming to Columbia, she was an Associate in the New York office of the Coudert Brothers law firm where she handled mergers and acquisitions, general corporate, corporate finance, securities, and intellectual property work. Susan earned her B.A. cum laude with honors in Economics from Brandeis University in 1986.  In 1990 she received her J.D. from the law school at the University of Texas at Austin, where she was an editor of the Texas Law Review.
